SA: Pilot of fatal crash was not permitted to fly: ATSB

An investigation's found the pilot of a fatal plane crash north of Adelaide .. was
suffering a terminal illness .. and wasn't supposed to be flying.

63-year-old veteran flyer and pilot GRAHAM TAYLOR .. and 17-year-old MATTHEW SMITH
.. were both killed in the crash soon after takeoff from an airstrip near Truro .. on
May 15th last year.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau investigation revealed a warning system that
may have alerted them to the impending crash .. had been deliberately disconnected.

The Bureau also found Mr TAYLOR may have become complacent performing a low-level spin
manoeuvre .. which left little or no margin for error .. and required sound judgement
and skill.
