Fed: New GG to be sworn in on Monday
Major-General MICHAEL JEFFERY plans to break with tradition and make a brief three-minuteaddress after he's sworn in as Australia's new Governor General today.
The former Governor of Western Australia becomes the first Australian-born Governor-Generalto have had a full-time military career.
Major-General JEFFERY will be sworn in by High Court Chief Justice MURRAY GLEESON asParliament resumes after its winter break.
He replaces PETER HOLLINGWORTH, who resigned early due to controversy over his handlingof child sex abuse cases when he was Anglican Archbishop of Brisbane.
The new Governor-General will take up residence at Yarralumla, on the shores of Canberra'slake Burley Griffin.
The man who filled in after Dr HOLLINGWORTH'S resignation, Tasmanian Governor Sir GUYGREEN, has left the official residence but remains Australia's administrator until Major-GeneralJEFFERY is sworn in.
