NEW YORK Bryn Terfel stumbled badly as he tried to leave the stage during Act 1 of Mozart's ``The Marriage of Figaro,'' and he sprawled face down for a moment before getting up, apparently unhurt, and completing his exit.
It was the only time he stumbled in any sense during Wednesday night's performance, as the Welsh bass-baritone made one of the most exciting Metropolitan Opera debuts in recent history.
Terfel, (his name is pronounced Brin TAIR-vel), is only 28 and has been singing professionally for just four years, but he's already being talked about as the next great Wotan, the killer baritone role …
