Q: While in line at the security checkpoint at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas earlier this month, I realized I didn't pack my lipstick in my checked luggage. An expensive new tube of solid lipstick was in my purse, along with some lip gloss gel.
When I asked a security person whether I could keep the products, I was told harshly that I must throw them out, and if I didn't, I would hold up the line. Later, I realized I had a small container of pepper spray attached to a key chain in my purse. The spray never drew screeners' attention in Las Vegas or at Albany International Airport.
Imagine how safe I felt afterward, knowing that pepper spray could pass through a checkpoint without question, but not a lipstick!
