NT:Inquest into Condrick continuing
The coronial inquest into the killing of a former teacher in the Northern Territory
who was slain in his home is continuing in the town of Katherine.
The inquest into the death of MICHAEL CONDRICK heard evidence yesterday that the dead
man had homosexual relations with several of his former students, who regularly came to
his Katherine home to drink alcohol and smoke cannabis.
Two men, one a boy at the time of the killing and another man, SAMUEL WESAN, both blamed
each other for the crime, which occurred in June last year.
A murder trial conducted earlier this year accusing the boy was abandoned after new
evidence came to light part way through.
Counsel assisting the coroner, ELISABETH ARMITAGE, told the inquest yesterday the trial
was also abandoned because of the way police handled the investigation, with the boy interviewed
against his will and kept in poor conditions in custody, including at times having no
mattress and no water.
The inquest is due to recommence today at 10am (CST).
